CAMA, Inc. began as an idea by three concerned citizens in Edgar County in October 2001.  When the coalition formed, it was the "Meth Coalition".  The original goals were to collaborate and to educate.  Clark County joined Edgar County in 2002 and our name changed to CAMA (Coalition Against Methamphetamine Abuse).

CAMA focused mainly on the methamphetamine epidemic in Edgar and Clark counties.  CAMA volunteers became 'CAMA Stewards', 'CAMA Teens' and 'CAMA Kids'.  One 82-year-old volunteer even became the 'CAMA Mom'.  Over 10,000 multi-drug informational brochures have been distributed in presentations: community forums; medical, industrial, school educator trainings; annual meetings; governmental boards; philanthropic organizations; parades and festivals.  Edgar County and Clark County Family Support Groups evolved from our CAMA membership.  A model Meth program at our area behavioral health treatment agency, the Human Resources Center was established in response to the unique treatment needs of high intensity drugs, i.e., meth.

Then, in 2004, CAMA became "CAMA, Inc." and developed a comprehensive five-year strategic plan to focus on the prevention and reduction of the impact of all substances.

In September of 2005, CAMA received federal funding.  Our current goals are to continue our mission and achieve our vision of creating permanent change and healthier communities.
